Firefighter Seriously Injured After Hit-and-Run on George Street
A firefighter is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Northamptonshire. The culprit, behind the wheel of a Peugeot, hit two pedestrians before speeding off without stopping.
The Horrific Crash
The shocking incident unfolded late on Saturday, 11th August, around 11pm on George Street. One of the victims, an on-duty firefighter, was rushed to hospital with multiple serious injuries. Thankfully, medics do not believe his injuries are life-threatening.
The second pedestrian involved escaped without needing medical treatment.
Driver Abandons Vehicle
The Peugeot was later found abandoned nearby on Studfall Avenue. Police are hunting the driver who fled the scene.
Fire Service Speaks Out
Chief Fire Officer Darren Dovey of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service told the Northamptonshire Telegraph: “I am thankful that our firefighter did not suffer life-threatening injuries in the incident, however, he does remain in hospital with what doctors are describing as a range of serious injuries.
“We continue to provide support to him, his family and colleagues who were left very shaken by the incident and aim to help him return to work when he is fully recovered.”
