Blaze Breaks Out at Portsmouth Student Block
Firefighters raced to Catherine House, a 14-story student high-rise in Portsmouth, after a generator fire erupted just before 6pm on Saturday.
Massive Fire Crew Responds
Teams from Southsea, Cosham, Havant, Fareham, Waterlooville, Gosport, Porchester, and Eastleigh joined the firefight. The fire started in the building’s plant room, sparking a swift response.
Evacuation and Road Closures
Students were evacuated quickly and safely thanks to a planned procedure led by the building staff. Meanwhile, police shut down Stanhope Road both ways to keep the area clear during the emergency.
Fire Under Control Within an Hour
Firefighters battled the flames using an aerial ladder platform, four breathing apparatus sets, one jet, and a safety jet. The incident was declared under control just after 6:40pm, roughly 40 minutes after the call-out.
