Tower of London Fire Drill Tests Emergency Response
Firefighters from across North East London’s Fire Brigade joined forces with Historic Royal Palaces staff, the Met Police, and London Ambulance Service for a high-stakes training exercise at the iconic Tower of London.
Emergency Plan Drilled at World Heritage Site
The drill focused on tackling a blaze in the famous White Tower while coordinating teams on how to safely salvage priceless artefacts. The exercise sharpened skills for preserving the Tower’s treasured collections in any future emergency.
The Brigade’s heritage team stressed how vital it is for historic venues to keep salvage plans updated. These plans outline which items must be removed first or protected on site, enabling firefighters to act fast and minimise damage.
Top Brass Praise the Realistic Training
“The Tower of London exercise was a fantastic opportunity for our firefighters to be able to test their response at one of our city’s most iconic landmarks,” said Tower Hamlets Borough Commander Richard Tapp. “It was a very useful session and I’d like to thank all our partners for taking part in the training with us.”
A Historic Royal Palaces spokesperson added: “As custodians of the Tower – one of the country’s most treasured landmarks – we are keenly aware of the importance of protecting the buildings and collections in our care. This exercise gave us the opportunity to practice our emergency procedures and provided invaluable experience for our staff.”
Salvation Army Lends a Helping Hand
The teams were also supported by the Salvation Army’s Incident Response van, with volunteers providing much-needed refreshments to the crews on the frontline of this crucial drill.
