First-ever policing pact struck between a train operator and the British Transport Police (BTP) promises a safer rail network.
Trailblazing Safety Deal
Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and the BTP have sealed a groundbreaking collaboration—the first of its kind for a train company. This new plan sets out clear goals to boost security and crack down on crime across the network.
Four Key Crime-Busting Goals
- Stamp out inappropriate sexual behaviour on trains and stations
- Spot and protect vulnerable passengers using the services
- Reduce assaults on railway staff and push for tougher prosecutions
- Boost engagement to build trust among passengers and employees
Leaders Back Joint Action
The deal was signed by BTP Chief Superintendent Martin Fry and GTR Managing Director Tom Moran.
“This declaration is a really positive step forward in making the railway safer for all of our communities,” said Martin Fry. “By working closely, we’ll set measurable goals to cut crime and raise confidence for every rail passenger.”
Tom Moran added, “We’re proud to be the first train company to team up with the BTP like this. This pact lays the foundation for stronger collaboration to keep customers and staff safe. We’ll hold each other accountable at every level.”
Passengers and staff can expect tougher policing and a safer journey thanks to this fresh, no-nonsense alliance.
