Tens of Thousands of Cops to Swarm Notting Hill Carnival This Bank Holiday!

More than 6,000 officers from the Metropolitan Police Service are set to flood west London this Bank Holiday weekend. Their mission? To keep the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival safe and smashing for over a million visitors.

Massive Police Presence to Tackle Violence

Sunday will see 6,162 Met officers and staff on duty, rising to 6,858 on Monday. Among them are members of the new Violent Crime Task Force, specially picked to root out violent offenders and confiscate weapons. This unit teams up with community groups and other police forces to clamp down hard on crime.

Knife Arches and Covert Ops to Stop Trouble Before It Starts

For the first time ever, knife arches will be positioned at key spots to sniff out attackers trying to sneak in blades. The Met is also deploying a mix of open and undercover tactics, using the Firearms Unit, Dog Unit, and Mounted Branch, alongside Carnival stewards, to keep troublemakers out.

Police Plea: Snitch on Troublemakers

“The sheer number of people and tight spaces make policing Carnival a tough gig,” said Superintendent Elisabeth Chapple, Met spokesperson. “We’re working close with organisers to make sure everyone has a safe, fun time. While there’s no specific threat, we’re monitoring all the time.”

Commander Dave Musker, Police Gold Commander, added: “If you plan to bring crime or violence to Carnival, be warned – we will hunt you down. Our top priority is the safety of Londoners.”

Safety Tips for Carnival Visitors

  • Leave valuables and flashy jewellery at home.
  • Keep all belongings on you at all times.
  • Carry just a little cash and plastic.
  • Cooperate with officers – they may ask you to take longer routes for your safety.
