Community Mourns as Flowers and Balloons Mark Scene
The local community has been paying heartfelt tribute to the schoolboy. Flowers, candles, and blue balloons now cover the spot where Daejaun died. One card read, “Daejaun, forever in our hearts,” while another said, “I love you forever, I am so proud of you, live it up.”
Friends remember Daejaun as a “good guy” who never caused trouble. They described him as “very smart and well-behaved,” and said he loved basketball, football, and rugby.
Two Men Arrested as Police Hunt for Answers
Police have arrested two men, aged 52 and 18, on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody as the investigation continues under Operation Baghaze.
Tasha Collins, a 43-year-old local resident, tried to save Daejaun. She said,
“I was upstairs and heard screaming from across the road saying ‘someone’s been stabbed.’ I rushed over and applied pressure to his wounds until paramedics arrived. He told me, ‘I’m 15, don’t let me die,’ and I said, ‘You’re not going to die, mate.’”
School and Locals Speak Out
Woolwich Polytechnic School, where Daejaun was a student, expressed deep sorrow: “All our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends. We are here to support them during this unimaginably difficult time.”
A local mother, who asked to stay anonymous, revealed her fears for her own son after witnessing the aftermath.
“He’s been crying all day. My son saw a sword the size of his leg. I’m scared for their safety. It’s not going to end. It’s going to keep happening.”
Police Call for Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry appealed to the public for help:
“My thoughts are with Daejaun’s loved ones as they try to come to terms with this heart-breaking incident. We need your help to find answers the victim’s family desperately needs.”
