Coronavirus Marshals Back on East Hampshire and Havant High Streets
From Monday 6 December, coronavirus marshals will return to the busy high streets of East Hampshire and Havant borough. Their mission? To offer advice and support to local shoppers and businesses as the festive season kicks off.
Friendly Faces, No Enforcement Powers
These marshals don’t have the power to enforce rules, but if they spot any problems, they can alert the police. Shoppers will spot them easily thanks to their bright ‘COVID-19 Marshal’ tabards.
Residents Welcome Reassuring Presence
Earlier this year, locals gave the marshals a warm thumbs up. Many found their presence reassuring, providing peace of mind while out and about.
“I’m very happy that we have been able to provide this support for residents and businesses,” said Councillor Ingrid Thomas, portfolio holder for Neighbourhood Quality at East Hampshire District Council.
“These marshals will help to give residents confidence while they’re doing their Christmas shopping in the district’s high streets.”
Government-Backed Protection for Festive Shoppers
The marshals are funded through the government’s Contain Outbreak Management Fund, part of the ongoing Covid-19 response to keep communities safe this winter.
