Emergency Crews Rush to Scene but Cyclist Dies
Despite rapid response from emergency services, including the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance, the 50-year-old Hampshire man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police quickly shut the eastbound A27 between Stockbridge and Whyke roundabouts, putting local diversions in place. The road remains partially closed but officers hope to fully reopen it before tonight’s rush hour.
Police Seek Crucial Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Detective Inspector Jason Hazzard, leading the investigation dubbed Operation Redstone, pleaded with anyone with information to come forward. He said:
“It is vital anyone with details about this collision, or who thinks they were involved, contacts us. It was a busy time on the road, and we believe more witnesses have yet to reach us.”
DI Hazzard is especially eager to speak to two men seen near a small white van by the crash site. Both were wearing shorts and had tattooed legs.
He also urged drivers with dashcams who were on the A27 early Thursday to check their footage for anything relevant.
