A chilling tragedy struck Dumfriesshire early Tuesday when a police officer, rushing to a fatal crash, learnt his wife was among the victims.
Deadly Smash on A75 Claims Two Lives
The horror unfolded just after 6:20 a.m. on the A75 near Annan. Two cars and a van collided, killing 41-year-old Melissa Delaney, who was driving a Nissan Qashqai, and a 35-year-old van driver.
The only surviving driver, aged 49, walked away unharmed.
Community in Mourning for Nurse and Baton Twirler
Melissa was more than a victim—she was a devoted nurse and a treasured member of the Dumfries Baton Twirlers (DBT) for almost 15 years. The club paid tribute to her unwavering support and pride in her daughters.
Abbie Davidson from the DBT said, “Melissa was the heart of our club. Her loss leaves a void we can’t fill.”
Friends and neighbours flooded social media with memories of Melissa’s warmth. Childhood friend Sarah Wilson described the news as devastating, sharing the community’s grief.
Police Appeal for Witnesses as Investigation Continues
Road Policing Inspector Adnan Alam expressed deep sympathies. He urged the public to report any dashcam footage or information to aid the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the people who died, and all involved in the collision,” Inspector Alam said. “We continue to offer support as inquiries continue.”
