Kent Police Crack Down Ahead of England vs USA World Cup Clash
Football fans are being urged to enjoy the World Cup safely as England gears up to face the USA tonight at 7pm. Kent Police are stepping up patrols across the county, targeting busy pubs, clubs, and bars expecting a big turnout.
Extra Officers on the Beat to Tackle Disorder
Officers will be ready to handle any trouble and assist vulnerable fans or victims of crime. Acting Chief Superintendent Simon Alland said licensing officers have been working with nightlife venues to reduce the risk of incidents and keep the atmosphere safe for everyone.
“Road policing units will also be out in force to catch anyone driving under the influence of drink or drugs,” Alland warned. “If you plan to drink, don’t drive.”
Warning After Euro 2020 Violence
The World Cup is the second major tournament in as many years following Euro 2020, which was delayed by the pandemic. Disturbances broke out last July in Maidstone after England’s Euro 2020 final loss to Italy, leading to 18 violent disorder charges.
Alland was clear: “There’s no excuse for violence or abuse, including domestic abuse, around football matches. Anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Support for Victims and How to Report
Police urged victims not to suffer in silence. “We’re here to help,” said Alland. “Report incidents online at kent.police.uk/report or call 999 in an emergency.”
Enjoy the game – but stay safe and keep it civil.
