Gillingham is on high alert after a soldier in uniform was seriously assaulted in a shocking stabbing incident.
Attack Rocks Sally Port Gardens
At around 5.55pm on Tuesday 23 July, police rushed to Sally Port Gardens following reports a man in his 40s had been stabbed. The victim, identified as a soldier, was seriously wounded and rushed straight to hospital. His condition is now described as serious but stable.
Suspect Busted in High-Speed Chase
Witnesses saw a 24-year-old local man fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Police tracked him down just 35 minutes later on Mooring Road in Rochester and arrested him. He remains in custody as detectives dig deeper.
Knives Seized, Multiple Crime Scenes Cordoned Off
Officers have set up cordons at both the attack site and where the suspect was caught. Several knives were recovered from both locations, sparking fears over violence in the area.
Investigation Now Includes Terrorism and Mental Health Angles
Acting Chief Superintendent Richard Woolley said: “We are keeping an open mind regarding the motivation behind this incident. Investigations include the possibility of mental health issues and any connections the suspect may have to the attack location. Counter Terrorism Policing South East is fully supporting the investigation.
