Morrisons warns shoppers over sneaky prize draw phishing scam
Morrisons has slammed a cunning phishing scam targeting its customers. Fraudsters are sending fake emails and texts pushing people to a dodgy website, www.morrisons-offers.co.uk, claiming they’ve come second in a prize draw.
Fake site steals credit card details
The bogus site looks almost identical to Morrisons’ genuine webpage and even links back to it. Victims are urged to enter their credit card info to claim their “prize”. But Morrisons confirms it’s a blatant scam designed to swipe personal and financial data.
Morrisons acts fast to shut scam down
The fraudulent site appeared just today, but Morrisons acted quickly to have it taken offline. They’ve also alerted email providers about the phishing emails flying around to stop more people falling for the trick.
Warning: Don’t hand over your details!
Morrisons’ online team said: “Phishing scams are designed to get personal and financial information from unsuspecting victims. We want internet users to know this is not our website and that this appears to be a scam to gain access to customers’ credit card details.”
They added: “We’ve taken action to have the website taken down and are alerting email providers to the scam emails. But we want to warn people who’ve already received the email – don’t hand over your personal details under any circumstances.”
