Top Cops Join Home Secretary to Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour Crisis
Detective Inspector James Ross and Sergeant Daniel Bartlett hit the Houses of Parliament as the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, officially launched Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week. The event shone a spotlight on the new ASB Case Review—giving victims of relentless anti-social behaviour the power to demand a multi-agency review.
The Power of the ASB Case Review
Formerly known as the community trigger, this initiative forces police and partner agencies to collaborate and crack anti-social behaviour cases together. It’s a game-changer for victims desperate for action.
kent-police/" title="Kent Police">Kent Police is already on high alert. Tackling rowdy drivers, drug issues, and street drinking forms a crucial part of their Safer Summer campaign. And with tens of thousands of ASB reports flooding in—39,606 in 2021, 28,130 in 2022, and 11,053 so far in 2023—the pressure is on.
Police Warn: Anti-Social Behaviour Is No “Low-Level Crime”
“We do not underestimate the impact that anti-social behaviour can have on the lives of our residents. It can make an area frightening and unpleasant to live or relax in. We work closely with our partner agencies to tackle the issue head on,” said Superintendent Pete Steenhuis.
“It is not a low-level crime. It can have a lasting impact on communities and we are committed to tackling it.”
Steenhuis urged residents to report every incident. “It’s often underreported. Formal reports help officers understand the scale of the problem and take the right action.”
More Cops on the Beat, New Neighbourhood Policing Model
Thanks to the Home Office police uplift programme, Kent Police now have their highest number of officers ever. Extra boots are hitting the streets along with a new neighbourhood policing model designed to deploy officers and PCSOs where they’re needed most.
“We’re keeping people safe and locking onto those who threaten our communities,” said Steenhuis.
