Wembley Woes Spark Mayhem in Maidstone

Kent Police were forced to call in Public Order officers and Dog Handlers after a booze-fuelled rampage sparked lockdown chaos in Maidstone. Furious football fans went wild after England’s defeat at Wembley, lashing out at cops with bottles and missiles.

Drunken Yobs Launch Attack on Police

Shortly after 11pm on Sunday, groups of hostile drinkers vented their fury on officers, hurling bottles and firing off flares that narrowly missed police. The situation spiraled, with door staff stepping in to help hold the line as arrests began.

  • Police dogs were briefly deployed to restore order.
  • Several men needed medical treatment after being knocked out by punches.
  • One man even exposed himself and shouted threats at officers.

Officers Injured as Violence Escalates

Officers were seen running towards trouble spots, often under attack. One man was carried off by police as others tried to stop arrests by attacking officers. Nine cops reported assaults, with five needing medical care at Maidstone Police Station. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

Kent Police Crack Down on Disorder

Chief Superintendent Warren Franklin said: “The vast majority of people in Kent behaved responsibly throughout Sunday. Our officers worked with councils and businesses to keep everyone safe during the football.

“However, towards the end of the game, several groups in Maidstone town centre engaged in disorder. Bottles were thrown at officers and a car was damaged.

“We confined the trouble to Jubilee Square. Two men are in custody, and we are reviewing footage to identify more suspects.”

“Anyone with information or footage of the Maidstone disorder is asked to call 01622 604100 quoting 11-1429. For other incidents, use the same number and quote 11-1201.”
