Blaze Rips Through Historic Somerset House in London
Firefighters are still on high alert at Somerset House after a major fire tore through the iconic London landmark on Saturday. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed their Fire Investigation team will return to the scene to crack the cause of the blaze.
Massive Emergency Response and Area Locked Down
The fire broke out yesterday, triggering a huge emergency response as crews battled to control the flames. Somerset House and surrounding streets were quickly cordoned off for public safety, causing major disruption in central London.
LFB reported the fire was brought under control late Saturday night, though firefighters stayed on-site overnight to prevent flare-ups. “We are maintaining a presence today to monitor the situation and ensure safety around the building,” an LFB spokesperson said.
Damage Unknown but No Injuries Reported
Initial reports suggest parts of the historic building suffered damage. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, with everyone inside safely evacuated during the emergency.
Somerset House, perched on the Strand, is a cultural hotspot packed with galleries, studios, and offices. The 18th-century building has been a cornerstone of London’s rich history.
Investigation Underway as Public Urged to Steer Clear
The fire’s cause remains a mystery. The LFB investigation team will conduct a detailed probe to find out where the blaze started and how it spread. “Our focus is understanding the source and progression of the fire,” said the LFB spokesperson.
Police have asked the public to avoid the area while investigations continue. Somerset House has yet to comment on how the fire might affect future events and exhibitions.
