Met Police Praise Progress but Warn Terror Threats Evolve
Met Police Back Lord Harris’ Terror Report
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist has welcomed Lord Harris’ latest report on London’s readiness for a major terror attack. He praised the recognition of “significant progress” since the 2016 review. “Emergency services and agencies continue to learn and improve our response to terrorist threats,” Twist said.
Credit to Met Officers and Partner Agencies
Twist credited the “incredible dedication and determination” of Met officers and staff, along with partners from other agencies. “We ensure lessons from attacks since 2017 are quickly identified and changes made without delay,” he stressed.
No Room for Complacency Amid Shifting Threats
Despite improvements, Twist warned, “There is no room for complacency. Terror risks are always evolving.” He thanked Lord Harris for the “thorough review” that will help the Met keep improving its counter-terror response.
Recommendations Under Review, Public Vigilance Vital
The Met will now study the report’s recommendations closely and work with partner agencies on implementation.
Twist urged Londoners to stay alert: “If you see or hear something suspicious, trust your instincts and ACT by reporting it confidentially at gov.uk/ACT or call 0800 789 321. In an emergency, dial 999.”
