Greater Manchester police have arrested two teenage boys amid a chilling wave of machete violence in South Manchester. Early on March 12, officers swooped on the 15 and 16-year-olds during dawn raids, detaining them on suspicion of wounding. Both remain in custody as the investigation heats up.
Four-Month Probe Targets Bladed Knife Crime
The arrests follow a relentless four-month investigation into a string of violent incidents involving teenagers armed with machetes and zombie knives. So far, no serious injuries have been reported – but the threat has residents on edge.
“Our team has been investigating a series of machete incidents in South Manchester over the last four months. These arrests today are an excellent result, but our work does not stop there. We will continue our efforts to investigate these crimes and bring those responsible to justice,” said Detective Inspector John Robb of GMP’s City of Manchester South division.
Police Boost Patrols to Quell Fear
In a move to calm nerves and deter further violence, Greater Manchester Police have ramped up high-visibility patrols across the area. Officers are out in force, urging locals to approach and engage with them.
“Extra patrols will be in place across South Manchester. If you see any of our officers, please feel free to speak to them as they are there to help,” added DI Robb.
