Shocking Hit-and-Run Drama in NW5
A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run incident involving a woman, followed by a dangerous escape attempt that saw him crash into a police car.
Woman Hurt in Fiery Ford Fiesta Collision
Police were called just before 2pm on Saturday, 28 July, to Southampton Road, NW5, after reports of a woman injured in a collision with a black Ford Fiesta. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was unloading a van when the Fiesta sped towards her vehicle. As she tried to close the rear door to let the car pass, the Fiesta smashed into the door and the woman before speeding off.
Emergency services attended quickly. Thankfully, her injuries were not serious.
Driver Rams Police Car in Desperate Getaway
A witness later spotted the same Fiesta returning along the street. When officers arrived, the male driver took off again. Pursued by police, the car stopped briefly in Queens Crescent, NW5. But then, in a shocking move, it reversed hard into the front of the police vehicle before taking off.
The officers gave chase and forced the Fiesta to a halt further down the road.
Man Arrested for Multiple Offences
The driver, a 42-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to stop for police, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and criminal damage to the police car.
He is currently held at a central London police station. No officers were injured during the chaotic incident.
Detectives from the Central North Command Unit are investigating. Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting CAD3850/28Jul.
