Man Arrested After Dramatic Siege in Worthing Flat

A tense stand-off in Worthing ended with a man’s arrest after he threatened to harm himself and police officers.

Police Called to Disturbance in Garrick Road

Officers rushed to a flat on Garrick Road at 3.40pm on Saturday, August 19, following reports of a man causing a disturbance. On arrival, the man inside threatened both himself and the officers if they tried to enter.

Hours-Long Negotiation Ends in Arrest

Police quickly set up a cordon and began negotiations with the man. The standoff lasted several hours as officers worked to de-escalate the situation. Finally, just before 11pm, the man was arrested without incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Praises Public Patience

“Thankfully no-one was hurt and we’d like to thank the people in the area for their patience while we were on scene and speaking with the man,” said Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Carr.

The arrested man, aged 30, faces a public order offence and remains in police custody.
