Man Held Over Murder of Southampton Teen Lucy McHugh Found Dead in Sports Centre Woods
A 24-year-old man has been arrested after the tragic discovery of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh’s body in woodland near Southampton’s Sports Centre.

Lucy was found at 7:45am on Thursday 26 July after being reported missing the previous night. The young girl vanished after leaving her home on Mansel Road East around 9:30am on Wednesday 25 July, and never returned.
“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to Lucy’s family and friends at this terrible time,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Barton. “We are urgently investigating the circumstances and appealing for public help.”
Investigation and Arrest
Lucy was reported missing late on Wednesday, prompting a police search. Sadly, a member of the public found her body the next morning. A post-mortem revealed some injuries that remain unexplained.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old Southampton man on suspicion of murder and sexual activity with a child. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Eyewitness Appeal
Lucy was last seen wearing a distinctive black jacket with white sleeves featuring the band Falling in Reverse logo on the front and RADKE 01 in red on the back.
Detectives are keen to piece together Lucy’s movements after she left home and are urging anyone who saw her or had contact with her on 25 July to come forward.
