Man Busted Trying to Snatch Child in Broad Daylight at Southsea Arcade
A man was arrested after a shocking attempted child snatch at Southsea arcade, Clarence Pier, on Friday evening.
Suspicious Behaviour Raises Alarm
The child’s mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, spotted the man acting strangely after returning to the arcade. She had come back to check if the council had fixed hazards after her son smashed his nose earlier in the week.
Attempted Grab Foiled by Brave Mum
The man approached the mother and child, telling the youngster a “lift was waiting outside” and he would take her to her mum—despite the parent being just yards away. When he made a grab for the child, the quick-thinking mum struck him and knocked him to the ground.
Police Called and Suspect Detained
Thanks to her swift action, the attempted snatch failed. CCTV footage revealed the man had been seen approaching other young children earlier. Police were called immediately and arrested the man, who is now in custody in Hampshire being questioned about the incident.
