A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two Sussex Police officers and a civilian were hit by a speeding car in Littlehampton.
Deliberate Smash in Early Morning Horror
The drama unfolded at around 1:05am near the Bodyshop roundabout on the A259. The officers, a man and a woman, were conducting a routine drugs check when a Mercedes-Benz saloon screeched towards them and slammed into the officers and a detained man at the roadside.
All three victims were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, police say their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.
Driver Flees Scene, Two Passengers Still at Large
The 20-year-old driver tried to make a getaway but was quickly caught and arrested for attempted murder. However, two passengers who fled the vehicle remain on the run.
Police Plea: Help Us Nab the Fugitives
“This is being investigated as a deliberate attack on two police officers in the course of carrying out their duties. Their injuries, and that of the man they were with, whilst serious, are not believed to be life threatening,” said Assistant Chief Constable Julia Chapman.
“Two passengers in the car remain outstanding and we urge the public to help us trace and bring to justice all of those involved.”
Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation
The area was sealed off for forensic work while officers continue their hunt for the fleeing suspects.
