Tragic M25 Crash Claims Two Lives – London Man Charged

A horrific smash on the M25 has left two dead, including beloved Zoe Hawes from Canvey Island, Essex. A London man now faces serious charges over the fatal collision.

Fatal Crash on the M25 Near St Albans

Zoe Hawes, 40, was on her way to celebrate her milestone birthday abroad when disaster struck in the early hours of February 4. The crash happened between junctions 22 (1 Colney) and 21A (North Orbital Road/St Albans) just after 4 am. Alongside Zoe, another man in a separate vehicle died in the pile-up.

Driver Charged with Dangerous Driving

Barancan Nurcin, 22, from Tottenham’s High Road, was charged on February 20 with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He also faces four charges for causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The crash involved four vehicles: a white Citroen Dispatch van, silver DFSK 580 Glory, silver Skoda Superb, and a black Peugeot 5008.

Police Pursuit and Ongoing Investigations

Hertfordshire Police revealed that officers were chasing the van just before the crash but called off the pursuit due to high risk. Essex Police have launched a criminal investigation, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct is probing the incident.

Family Mourns ‘Wonderful Mummy and Nanna’

“Zoe was the heart of our blended family – a wonderful mummy, stepmother, sister, aunt, and beloved nanna,” said her grief-stricken family. “Her vibrant spirit and love were the cornerstone of our lives. We will cherish her memory forever.”

The family described the pain of losing such a central figure and thanked those supporting them during this devastating time.
