Man Released After Fatal Rushton House Fire Kills Toddler and Two Adults

Tragic Blaze Claims Three Lives

A devastating fire tore through a converted railway station home on Beswick Close, Rushton, Northamptonshire, late Friday night. The blaze erupted around 10:30 pm, prompting a swift response from police, fire crews, and paramedics.

Sadly, a four-year-old girl, a 23-year-old man, and a 30-year-old woman died at the scene. Three police officers were treated in hospital after inhaling smoke while battling the inferno.

Initial Arrest Ends Without Charges

A 54-year-old man from nearby Kettering was arrested on suspicion of murder but has now been released without any charges. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow called the tragedy a “heartbreaking incident.” She confirmed a “thorough and complex investigation” is ongoing.

“My thoughts, and those of everyone involved in responding to this fire, are with the people who died and those who love them,” said DCI Burrow. “Due to the intensity of the fire, we are managing a very challenging and dangerous scene, working carefully to recover the deceased for formal identification.”

Community Left Reeling

Neighbours described the scene as an “absolute inferno,” expressing shock and sorrow. One local told the Northamptonshire Telegraph, “My lad said it was on fire. There was a man trying to get in outside. Ambulances, police, fire trucks – they were everywhere. We don’t know the people who live there, but all we can do is hope and pray.”

Ongoing Probe and Road Closures

The building, once a train station, suffered severe damage with the roof completely collapsed. Police have cordoned off the area while fire investigators comb the site.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service has advised the public to steer clear of the vicinity. Roads remain closed on Station Road between Desborough Road and Oakley Road.

Floral tributes have appeared outside the property as the community mourns the tragic loss.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
