Medway Police Launch Major Crackdown on Dangerous Drivers
Medway Police hit the streets with a major day of action targeting reckless drivers and unsafe vehicles. The crackdown follows complaints from worried local residents and businesses demanding safer roads.
Rochester and Strood Targeted
The operation swept across Rochester and Strood town centres. It saw neighbourhood constables, PCSOs, roads policing officers, and teams from Medway Council and the Environment Agency join forces for the crackdown.
59 Traffic Offences Caught – And Counting
Officers dished out 59 traffic offence reports for a range of serious violations, including:
- Driving without insurance
- Using mobile phones behind the wheel
- Failing to wear seatbelts
- Transporting children without proper restraints
On top of that, three fixed penalty notices totalling £600 were issued for no insurance, no driving licence, and seatbelt offences.
Vehicles Seized and Banned
The enforcement team confiscated one car, two electric bikes, and seven e-scooters. Plus, a faulty vehicle was prohibited from being driven until its broken seatbelt was fixed.
Meanwhile, environment officers stopped 12 waste-carrying vehicles to check licence compliance. Investigations are ongoing.
Police Issue Stern Warning
Inspector Paul Diddams, who led the operation, said: “Law-abiding motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are put at unnecessary risk by those who flout the law. Local people have shared their concerns and we are determined to target illegal drivers and, where appropriate, remove their vehicles from public roads.”
“This enforcement will be repeated throughout the rest of the year across Medway. Our message is simple: if you are driving an unsafe or illegal vehicle, electric bike or e-scooter, be prepared to have it seized and face prosecution.”
