Four Arrested in Major UK Human Trafficking Crackdown
Police forces from Leeds, Birmingham, Reading, Southampton, and Oldham launched a major operation today (14/06), targeting human trafficking and money laundering across the country. Supported by the National Crime Agency, the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SW ROCU), and local authorities, officers raided seven addresses in total.
Illegal Brothels Busted, Victims Rescued
- Four suspects arrested: one in Birmingham, two in Reading, and one in Southampton.
- Over £5,000 in cash and several mobile phones seized.
- Two illegal brothels uncovered in Reading and Southampton.
- Five victims rescued from Reading, Southampton, and Oldham now receiving specialist support.
Police Strike at Europe-Wide Crime Network
Detective Inspector Angela Shipp of Wiltshire Police said: “This was a major international operation led by us to arrest suspects who we believe are members of a Europe-wide organised crime group trafficking victims from Romania into the UK.
“These brutal gangs operate globally, enslaving victims in terrible conditions and forcing them into sexual exploitation to survive. The victims rescued today are now being cared for by specially trained officers.”
Wiltshire Police Pledge to End Modern Slavery
Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson added: “Ensuring our county is hostile to modern slavery is a top priority. No stone has been left unturned to bring these vile criminals to justice.”
“Slavery didn’t end centuries ago – it has evolved. Our ongoing policing sends a clear message: there is nowhere for traffickers or gangmasters to hide in Wiltshire or beyond.”
