Bloodbath in Croydon: Police Lose Grip as Peckham Gang Violence Spirals
Police are struggling to control the streets after a brutal gang hit sparked terror in Croydon. Rival gangs OFB, MPK, and CRO are trading blows in a violent turf war. The latest victim, known only as Lavs, was stabbed to death behind a block of flats on Wisbeach Road, his blood-soaked trainers left chillingly at the scene.
Peckham Hitsquad Threatens Retaliation
A teenage member of the Peckham Hitsquad warned, “You don’t know who’s gonna die next. But we will fight back. We’ll take one of their soldiers.” Officers from the Violent Crime Task Force (VCTF) descended on local streets, stopping and searching people from all backgrounds after a shocking spree of 11 stabbings in just two hours.
Gang insiders blame the police for losing the battle, citing a lack of visible street officers in Croydon as the reason attacks are so deadly and frequent.
Hospital Stabbings Overwhelm Local Services
- At 7.15pm, four men in their 20s arrived at a south London hospital with stab and slash wounds.
- One is in a life-threatening condition.
- All arrived within an hour of each other at Croydon UCA Hospital.
This surge of violence comes despite a £15 million funding boost from the Mayor of London aimed at stepping up street patrols and cracking down on violent crime. However, the VCTF officers are pulled in multiple directions, hampering efforts to stamp out gang violence.
Met Police Respond Amid Rising Violence
A Met Police spokesman confirmed a separate stabbing at 9.12pm in Dingwall Road, Croydon, where a man was arrested on suspicion of GBH. The victim was also arrested, with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
Earlier at 8pm on Wisbeach Road, one man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening stab wounds. Another man found stabbed at the scene was pronounced dead despite paramedics’ efforts. His family has been informed.
Detective Superintendent Nicky Arrowsmith stated:
“Tonight we have seen a number of needless and completely abhorrent violent altercations, including one resulting in a tragic loss of life. Officers will patrol throughout the night with support from the Violent Crime Taskforce and Territorial Support Group to prevent further violence. A Section 60 stop and search order is in place across Croydon until Saturday morning.”
She urged anyone with information to contact police via 101, highlighting the difficulty of tackling violent crime without community help. “We are not complacent and cannot do this alone,” she said.
Violent Crime Task Force Stats
Since launching in April 2018 until May 2019, VCTF teams have:
- Carried out 8,452 weapons sweeps
- Recovered 910 knives, 651 offensive weapons, 299 firearms
- Arrested 4,937 suspects
Despite these efforts, gang violence in Croydon and across London remains dangerously high. The brutal stabbing spree is a stark reminder that the battle for London’s streets is far from over.
