Tragic Death at Brixton O2 Aftershocks

One woman has died following the shocking incident at Brixton O2 Academy on Thursday, 15 December. Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, from Newham, succumbed to her injuries at hospital on the morning of Saturday, 17 December.

Two other women, aged 21 and 23, remain in critical condition. The police investigation is ongoing, with specialist officers supporting Rebecca’s family during this tragic time.

Major Incident Under Scrutiny

A post-mortem on Rebecca is set for Sunday, 18 December, at Greenwich Public Mortuary. Meanwhile, detectives from Specialist Crime Command continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, Lambeth and Southwark policing commander, spoke out from the scene:

“I’d like to extend my sympathies to all those who have been affected. Having seen some of the really upsetting images on social media, our thoughts are with them.”

“An urgent investigation is currently under way. Cordon barriers remain as officers gather evidence and piece together what happened.”

Police Plea to Witnesses

Footage from social media and police body cams is being combed through as part of the inquiry. The force is grateful to the community and partners for their ongoing support and information.

“We have set up an online page for photo and video submissions. Around 4,000 people were present at the time, and we urge anyone with information to come forward,” added Chief Superintendent Wingrove.
