Meet The 191 New Bobbies Ready to Tackle London Streets
Tomorrow, the Met Police will welcome 191 fresh-faced neighbourhood officers straight from Police Now’s academy. These grads have smashed their initial training as part of the renowned two-year National Graduate Leadership Programme – designed to recruit and train top talent to frontline policing across the UK’s biggest force.
Record Demand Meets Diverse New Recruits
For the first time in nearly ten years, the entire cohort is dedicated solely to the Met amid tough recruitment battles. Over 5,000 hopefuls applied, but only the most driven made the cut, all ready to shake up London’s policing culture and bring positive change.
Police Now prides itself on top-tier diversity. This crew is no different – 45% identify as female, 30% hail from ethnic minority backgrounds, with 10% of Black heritage. Together, they speak 39 languages, boosting the Met’s local connections.
Support From the Top
Policing Minister Dame Diana Johnson said: “I am delighted to see this new diverse group of officers joining our police, supported by Police Now’s expert training. They are joining at a time when we are introducing our Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, and I know the skills they have learned will be instrumental as we restore neighbourhood policing.”
Deputy Assistant Commish Helen Millichap added: “We are thrilled to welcome over 190 new officers who have successfully completed their initial training at the Police Now academy. They will play a key role in achieving the priorities set out in the new Met for London plan and strengthen local policing teams.”
Ready for Action on London’s Frontline
Sworn in back in July, these officers spent seven intense weeks sharpening their skills before graduating on 6th September. They’re now heading straight into the frontlines across London’s neighbourhoods to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and rebuild public trust over the next two years.
Since 2014, Police Now has been trailblazing diversity and innovation in UK policing, recruiting over 3,000 officers across 36 forces in England and Wales. It remains the only national recruitment pipeline and ranks as a Times Top 100 Graduate Employer.
