British distance running icon Mo Farah has called time on his glittering career after the Great North Run on Sunday. The four-time Olympic champ declared it his last professional race, ending an era in style.

<pKnown for dominating the 5,000m and 10,000m on the track, Farah announced his retirement earlier this year. He chose the iconic half-marathon in northeast England for his grand send-off.

In front of a roaring crowd, the 40-year-old finished the race in a solid 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 28 seconds. However, it was Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola who stole the show, smashing the course in an impressive 59 minutes and 58 seconds.

Emotional Farewell from Fans and Farah

Farah enjoyed a heartfelt farewell as fans lined the route, cheering and offering high-fives. Speaking to the BBC, he said: “Amazing support. It is the end of my career. I wanted to come here and celebrate. It has been an amazing career.”
