Winchester Muslims Rally Behind New Mosque Plans
The Muslim community in Winchester is buzzing with excitement after agreeing to buy Hyde Parish Hall for a brand-new mosque and community centre. Although the deal won’t be finalized for a few months, locals are already optimistic about the plans.
Fundraising Race On to Hit £750,000 Target
To fund the purchase and renovations, the community launched a JustGiving appeal that’s already smashed through £271,819 of its £750,000 goal. Support is pouring in as locals back this major step forward.
“For over 20 years, the Winchester Muslims have been searching for the perfect spot for a mosque and a multi-function centre,” the appeal states. “Alhamdulillah, Hyde Parish Hall has just become available.”
Why Hyde Parish Hall? The Perfect Fit
- Has planning permission for community use already in place
- Central location near car parks and public transport links
- Fully accessible entrances, cloakrooms, and a commercial kitchen
- Space for up to 200 people – ideal for prayers, Eid, classes and women’s groups
- Includes accommodation facilities
Community Spirit and Spiritual Rewards
Though Winchester’s Muslim community is relatively small, they’ve raised over £500,000 so far. More funds are needed to complete the purchase and refurbish the building. The appeal quotes Prophet Muhammad (SAW):
“Whoever builds a mosque desiring thereby Allah’s pleasure, Allah builds for him the like of it in paradise.”
The mosque will not only serve as a spiritual hub but also unite the community. The residents of Winchester are determined to make this vision a reality and reap both worldly and heavenly rewards.
