Police Launch Major Crackdown on Violent Crime in Croydon and Bromley

The Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce (VCTF) teamed up with local officers for a tough 10-week blitz tackling a recent spike in stabbings. From February to April, swarms of police patrolled the streets, hunting weapons and troublemakers to make the boroughs safer.

Massive Stop-and-Search Operation Nets 154 Arrests

Over the course of the crackdown, cops conducted 289 stops and arrested 154 people. Charges ranged from carrying offensive weapons to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. The haul included one firearm and 29 knives, proving the operation hit some serious targets.

  • On 3 February in Penge, two men were caught with drugs. A search of their linked home uncovered over £18,000 in cash.
  • In Bromley on 11 February, officers swooped on a car tied to criminal damage and found a machete, baseball bat, and a slingshot loaded with ball bearings. Two suspects were arrested on the spot.
  • A gun and a stash of Class A drugs were seized from a Purley address on 17 March, leading to two more arrests.

Inspector Praises Intelligence-Led Tactics for Safer Streets

Inspector Leon Coltress, VCTF: “We quickly deploy our specially trained officers to tackle violent crime in London hotspots. The results in Croydon and Bromley speak for themselves. These arrests show the power of intelligence-led stop and search.” “The public have seen officers not just reacting but preventing crime. We hope our presence gives people peace of mind. But it’s crucial we all work together to protect our communities.”
