Intruder Jailed Over Attempted Rape in Medway Home
A 27-year-old intruder has been locked up for over four years after trying to rape a woman in her Medway home. Gabriel Culin, who has no fixed address, broke into the victim’s bedroom in the early hours of 30 August 2019 and launched a horrifying attack.
Victim Fights Off Attacker
Thankfully, the woman fought back fiercely, forcing Culin to flee. His escape was short-lived, as forensic evidence left at the scene soon tied him to the crime. Culin later pleaded guilty to attempted rape at Maidstone Crown Court.

On Monday 2 December 2019, Culin was sentenced to four years and three months behind bars. PC Danielle Stanton from the Medway Rape Investigation Team praised the victim’s courage.
“The victim’s bravery with regard to this case should be applauded. Not only did she fight Culin off during what must have been a terrifying assault, she was extremely courageous afterwards in presenting the strong evidence which confirmed his guilt,” said PC Stanton.
“Culin’s appalling behaviour has rightly led him to a custodial sentence and I hope this outcome encourages other victims of sexual assault to come forward.”
Message to Victims
The police hope this case sends a strong message to victims everywhere: speaking out can bring offenders to justice.
