Armed Standoff Sparks Lockdown in Northwood

Armed police from Hampshire Constabulary have locked down a property in Pallance Road, Northwood, after a man threatened officers during a tense standoff this afternoon.

Man on Roof Threatens Officers

The drama began just after 12:30pm when officers were called to the scene. A man in his 20s is reportedly perched on the roof armed with a piece of wood. He has threatened to “do” the police and refuses to come down.

The 20-something is believed to be suffering from mental health issues. Island doctors were expected to attend but did not show up, complicating the situation.

Emergency Services Swarm the Scene

  • Eight police units remain stationed on Pallance Road, with another on the outskirts of Cowes.
  • A National Air Support helicopter joins the operation from above.
  • Specialist negotiators have been called in to talk the man down.
  • A police dog handler removed a can of fuel from the property, reducing risk.

Ongoing Standoff as Demands Made

The man has made a simple demand for cigarettes. Concerned family members have returned to the property in hopes of calming him down. A local resident has even brought food as the standoff drags on for over three hours.

Emergency services remain vigilant as the tense stand-off continues. More updates to follow.
