Teens Caught Red-Handed with Machete in Croydon Weapons Sweep
17-Year-Old Nabbed Carrying 16-Inch Blade
Violence Suppression Unit (VSU) officers in Croydon made a shocking find during a routine weapons sweep on Drummond Road. At 7pm on Monday, July 27, a 17-year-old was caught carrying a massive 16-inch machete after trying to dodge police attention.
Chase Ends with Big Arrest
The group of young men changed direction when they spotted cops and then split up. When officers approached, the 17-year-old bolted—but was quickly caught after a brief chase. The huge blade was seized on the spot. The teen was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and class B drugs.
Stop and Search Powers Prove Their Worth
“This stop shows the effectiveness and value of stop and search and how it can keep our communities safe,” said Inspector Kathy Morteo. “We may not have found the blade if it wasn’t for the powers we have under stop and search.”
Inspector Morteo added that the investigation will also explore how authorities can support the teen’s welfare alongside local partners.
VSU: On the Frontline Against Violence
The VSUs work round the clock to tackle violence at a neighbourhood level. They aim to prevent, deter, and bring offenders to justice while supporting victims and reassuring the public.
Despite their efforts, the unit urges the public to come forward with any information about criminals carrying weapons or exploiting youngsters for revenge or gain.
