Crime Crackdown in Darenth Wood Road: Stolen Vehicles and Environmental Chaos Seized
On Friday 21 June 2024, law enforcement and council officers swooped on Darenth Wood Road for a major crackdown. Teams from Dartford Borough Council, Sevenoaks District Council, the Environment Agency, National Highways, and HMRC joined forces for the raid.
Suspected Stolen Vehicles and More Seized
During the operation, police seized a haul of suspected stolen property including a motorhome, a John Deere Gator, a towable generator, a quad bike, a Ford Fiesta, and numerous car parts. But that was just the start.
The enforcement teams also uncovered evidence pointing to illegal land acquisition, unlawful waste processing, serious environmental damage, and even animal cruelty. An ongoing investigation is probing the origins of the seized vehicles and scrutinising other criminal offences linked to the site. Agencies are also tackling breaches of civil law arising from the activities.
Police and Council Vow to Nail Offenders
Inspector Lee Cheesman, of the Dartford Community Safety Unit, said: “We’ve had multiple reports of anti-social behaviour here. Joining partners investigating further allegations, we were determined to stop the disruptive behaviour harming local communities.”
“Upon arriving, it was clear some individuals were involved in a host of suspected offences. Together with enforcement teams, we will ensure those responsible face the consequences.”
A Dartford Borough Council spokesperson added: “Cracking down on illegal activity like this helps us root out key causes of fly-tipping and related crimes in the borough.”
“Environmental crime hits the whole community, and Dartford residents shouldn’t have to tolerate such anti-social behaviour. We’re committed to making sure Dartford doesn’t become a dumping ground.”
Environment Agency Backs the Effort
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “This shows the power of partnership to stop waste criminals in their tracks.”
“Anyone suspecting illegal activity should report it immediately to our 24-hour hotline on 0800 807060 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
