Violent Football Fan Brawl Sparks 12 More Arrests
Just after 6pm on Saturday, March 18, chaos erupted on Terminus Terrace at the Oxford Street junction. Police rushed to reports of violent disorder involving fans from two rival football clubs.
Eyewitnesses described a brutal scene with tables, chairs, and glasses flying, while a man was brutally assaulted during the frenzy.
12 More Held Over Football Fracas
Following extensive investigations, police have swooped again, making 12 fresh arrests—all on suspicion of violent disorder.
Those arrested include:
- A 45-year-old man from Dibden Purlieu
- Two 21-year-olds from Bursledon
- An 18-year-old from Curdridge
- A 24-year-old from southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton
- A 29-year-old from Chandler’s Ford
- Three more men aged 20-37 from Southampton
- And a 16-year-old boy from Dibden Purlieu
All have been released on bail with strict conditions as police press on with enquiries.
Police Crackdown Continues
“The vast majority of those attending football are there to do just that and want no involvement in any disorder. However, there is a small minority who seek to use it as an occasion to commit crime, and we will not tolerate this,” said Chief Inspector Stuart Ratcliffe.
“Our arrests today come following some extremely hard work from our officers, and we will continue to work to identify and arrest anyone involved in this incident.”
The 12 latest arrests come after 10 men were detained at the scene. Those ten remain on conditional bail as the investigation unfolds.
