Bank Scam Targets Elderly in New Forest – Police Issue Urgent Warning
Police have slammed a nasty phone scam hitting the New Forest, where fraudsters trick victims into handing over bank cards and PINs. Two shocking cases came to light on Tuesday, 12 March, involving elderly residents.
Scam Tricks 90-Year-Old into Giving Away PIN
In New Milton, a 90-year-old man was duped by a caller pretending to be from his bank. The scammer claimed a new bank card was on its way and asked if he wanted to keep his old PIN. The victim unsuspectingly revealed his PIN during the call.
Shortly after, a man turned up at the victim’s home, collected the bank card, and handed over two gift cards. Within hours, £500 was stolen from the man’s account.
Similar Scam Hits 85-Year-Old Woman
An 85-year-old woman also fell foul of the same trick. The thief walked away with £1,190 after posing as bank staff and collecting her card. The man was described as black, around 5ft 11ins, medium build with curly or wavy hair, wearing a hi-vis jacket.
