Shots Fired in Ilford: 19-Year-Old Hurt, Police Hunt Taxi Driver Witness
Gunfire erupted in Ilford late Friday night, leaving a 19-year-old man injured. Police were called to Loxford Lane at 11:41pm on 28 June after reports of shots fired. Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. Fortunately, his injuries weren’t life-threatening and he has since been discharged from hospital.
Second Shooting Linked on High Road
Moments later, police were alerted to another shooting on High Road, Ilford. No one was hurt, but evidence confirmed a firearm was discharged. Detectives are linking both incidents and believe they are connected.
Taxi Driver Witness Crucial to Investigation
Police are desperate to find a key witness—a taxi driver believed to be behind the wheel of a light-coloured Vauxhall Zafira Tourer (2012-2019 model). The driver was parked in Castle View Gardens, Ilford, between 11:12pm and midnight, with at least one passenger inside.
Two more men then joined the cab, one carrying a bag suspected to contain a firearm. These men are suspects in both shootings, which likely happened while the taxi waited. The driver probably had no idea what was unfolding.
Detective Constable Natalie Morris said: “We want anyone with info to come forward, especially the Vauxhall Zafira driver. He may hold vital clues and we urge him to do the right thing and contact us. We promise full support and complete confidentiality.”
“The suspects are dangerous, but keeping our communities safe means police and public need to work together. You can also pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers.”
