Horrific Homophobic Attack Rocks Burgess Park
A 55-year-old man was brutally assaulted in Burgess Park in the early hours of Saturday, 14 May. The victim was walking with two friends when an unknown attacker hurled homophobic abuse before striking him over the head.
Victim Treated, Suspect On The Run
The assault happened at 1:40am BST. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are thankfully not life-threatening.
Police Hunt Young Man Seen on Albany Road
Officers are eager to speak to a young male suspect caught on CCTV fleeing the scene along Albany Road. The man appears to be in his early 20s, wearing a stud earring and carrying a JD Sports plastic string bag. Although his face is obscured, police hope someone will recognise him.
Met Police Vow Tough Action on Hate Crime
Commander Dr Alison Heydari, Frontline Policing, said: “Tackling violent crime is the Met’s top priority, and this sort of violence, especially when driven by homophobia, will not be tolerated. Our Central South BCU team is working fast and thoroughly to catch the attacker. We are committed to bringing this individual to justice.”
