A3 Shut After Serious HGV Crash Near Portsmouth
The A3 is closed both ways following a major collision involving an HGV just before noon on Tuesday, April 20, near Portsmouth.
Driver Trapped as Rescue Teams Rush In
Firefighters and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance’s flying doctors are battling to free a trapped driver at junction two (Hulbert Avenue) in Havant. The air ambulance touched down on the London-bound A3 carriageway to assist.
Fire crews from Waterlooville, Havant, and Cosham used specialist cutting gear to free those involved. A specialist HART team from South Central ambulance services is also on the scene.
Silver VW Estate Crashes Into Waste Lorry
The driver of a silver VW estate was freed and airlifted to Southampton Hospital’s trauma unit after crashing into the rear of an L and S Waste lorry carrying portaloos.
The condition of the driver and anyone else involved remains unknown at this time.
Investigation Underway
Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit has launched an investigation into what caused the serious smash.
