An elderly woman in her late 80s was targeted just after withdrawing cash from an ATM in Walmley around 10am this morning. Her bag was snatched from her trolley in a shocking daylight robbery.

Quick-Thinking Police Hunt Down Getaway Car

The crooks sped off in a vehicle. Police swiftly released the registration number to track them down. The getaway car was caught by automated number plate recognition (ANPR) on Stratford Road earlier this afternoon.

Officers tailed the vehicle, but it refused to stop. With no other option, police deployed a stinger near Robin Hood island to bring the chase to an end.

Five in Car, Including Child – Two Arrested on Suspicion of Robbery

Inside the car were five people, including a child. A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in custody for questioning. Police have seized the vehicle as part of their ongoing investigation.

Victim Comforted and Police Seek Witnesses

The distressed elderly woman was cared for by supermarket staff before being safely taken home. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the robbery to come forward.
