Police Issue Urgent Warning After Intruders Enter Homes in Gosport
Gosport residents are on high alert after two separate reports of males entering unlocked homes in the district. The incidents, which occurred on Broomfield Crescent and Braemar Road, involved intruders walking straight through unlocked front doors while occupants were inside.
Two Creepy Break-Ins in Broad Daylight and Evening
The first incident happened on Friday afternoon, 30th September 2016, at around 10am. A man, described as late 20s to early 30s, dark-haired with a slim build, beard, and wearing a black coat, admitted to mistakenly walking into the wrong property. The occupant challenged him, but he quickly left, claiming he was looking for a specific house number — which turned out to be the one he had just entered.
The second case unfolded later that same day around 8.45pm. This time a man wearing beige trousers and a white T-shirt responded to the occupant shouting “hello” from another room by saying “sorry, wrong 1” before making a swift exit.
Police Urge Residents: Lock Your Doors Even When Home
Police are warning homeowners to always lock doors that can be opened from the inside, even when they are at home. “It only takes seconds for someone to slip inside and steal belongings,” officers said.
What To Do If You Spot Suspicious Activity
- Call 999 immediately if you catch someone trying to enter your home.
- Do not delay reporting suspicious behaviour until the next day.
- Stay alert and check that all doors and windows are locked at all times.
Stay sharp, Gosport! Don’t give intruders the chance to stroll in uninvited.
