Wheelchair user punched and robbed in shocking late-night attack in Newport

Police are hunting two thugs who mugged a 30-year-old wheelchair user on Petticoat Lane, Newport, late Tuesday night (3 July).

Violent Assault Near Birch Gardens

The victim was making his way home around 11:35pm when two white males, aged late teens to early twenties, approached him near Birch Gardens.

One attacker landed a punch to the man’s left eye, leaving nasty bruising. He was also kicked in the shin during the brutal assault.

Thieves Swipe Tools, Cigarettes, Glasses

The crooks made off with two small silver 1-ended spanners, Allen keys, a pack of cigarettes, and a pair of glasses.

Both suspects are described as medium build, standing between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 11ins tall.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Officers are combing CCTV footage and have already identified possible witnesses.

Detective Constable Scott Carine urges anyone who saw the attack, or has any information, to come forward. Contact Newport Police Station on 101 quoting reference 44180249571.

So far, police have not recieved any reports of similar attacks in the area.
