Human Remains Found in Croydon Park – Murder Investigation Underway
Crime Scene Cleared After Shocking Discovery
The Metropolitan Police have officially lifted the crime scene at Rowdown Fields, Lodge Lane, Croydon, following the discovery of human remains.
The remains were first found around 9am on April 2. Further searches uncovered additional remains believed to be from the same victim. A specialist anthropologist has confirmed the remains are indeed human.
Victim Still Unidentified
Authorities are working flat out to identify the victim, but so far, they cannot confirm the age, gender, or ethnicity.
Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, leading the inquiry, said, “Our priority is to identify the victim, but until post-mortem results come in, we cannot confirm age, ethnicity, or gender.”
Investigation Treated as Murder
Samples have been sent for urgent forensic analysis, with a special post-mortem set for later this week. Thorpe stressed the case is being treated as a murder investigation and the search continues.
Community on Edge
Superintendent Lewis Collins thanked locals for their patience and urged against wild speculation. Regular updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
One local, a 30-year-old dad who regularly walks his dog in Rowdown Fields, called the discovery “terrifying” due to the park’s popularity with families and children.
The community remains on high alert as police race to bring answers to the victim’s family, grappling with this tragic loss in their neighbourhood.
