False Hit-and-Run Death Rumours Rock Maidstone

Social media went into meltdown over the weekend with claims of a fatal hit-and-run in Maidstone. Panic spread as several posts claimed two people had been struck by a hit-and-run vehicle on Knightider Street Saturday evening.

Driving Instructor Sparks Panic

Nicole Stevens, a driving instructor with Bill Plant Driving School, was among the first to post about a “fatal hit-and-run.” Others quickly fanned the flames, with Sarah Terry and Catherine Casey adding to the growing rumours, including claims that two girls had been involved and one had died.

Police Slam Rumours: Victim Stable, Driver Stopped

Kent Police swiftly slammed the viral falsehoods. A spokesperson confirmed:

“There was a collision last night at around 8.15pm in Lower Stone Street, involving a male pedestrian. He was taken to the hospital with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening. The driver stopped after the collision.”

The police emphasised that no fatalities occurred, and the driver did not flee the scene.

Don’t Believe The Hype

Despite the weekend frenzy, the facts are clear: one injured pedestrian, no deaths, and a responsible driver staying put. The social media storm turned out to be just that — a storm of false alarms.
