Police Launch New Appeal Over Basingstoke Sexual Assault

Police have renewed their hunt for a man linked to a serious sexual assault on a 24-year-old woman in Basingstoke.

Attack Happened in Popley Playpark

The assault took place between 10pm and 11pm on Sunday, October 2, 2016, near the playpark by 1 Road and Maldive Road, Popley. Since then, specialist officers have supported the victim while detectives chased several lines of inquiry.

Police Release Suspect Description

Now cops have revealed a description of the man they want to speak to:

  • White male
  • Mid to late 20s
  • About 5ft 7in tall
  • Not slim, with a bit of a stomach
  • Brown hair – longer on top, shorter at sides
  • Scruffy facial hair
  • Wearing blue denim jeans and a blue fleece jumper with a partial front zip

Detective Pleads for Public Help

“While this is being treated as an isolated incident, it is a serious offence committed by someone the victim did not know,” said Detective Constable Tracy West.

“We need help identifying this man. If you recognise him or know someone matching this description, please come forward. Any information is vital.”
