Manhunt Underway After Two Armed Robberies Rock Southampton
Police have launched a manhunt after two brazen armed robberies hit the Bitterne area of Southampton in just three days.
Ladbrokes Held Up at Knifepoint
On Sunday, May 15, at 9:30pm, a man stormed into the Ladbrokes bookmaker on Butts Road demanding cash from the cashier. He escaped with £175. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Cash-In-Transit Driver Brutally Attacked
The very next morning at 10:20am, a violent robbery unfolded near Domino’s at Bitterne Road precinct. A 44-year-old cash-in-transit driver making a collection on foot was struck with a bat-like weapon by a man who snatched a black cash box containing £12,000. Once again, no injuries were reported.
Police Link Both Incidents to One Suspect
Officers believe the same suspect is behind both crimes. Witnesses describe the man as:
- White male, late 20s to early 30s
- About 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall
- Medium build
- Wearing a blue hooded top both times
- Sporting knee-length turquoise chequered shorts during Monday’s robbery
- Armed with a bat or similar weapon
The stolen cashbox is black with orange stickers.
Detective Pleads for Witnesses
“We are appealing for witnesses to both incidents to come forward,” said Detective Inspector Toby Elcock. “The similar descriptions link these crimes. Anyone near Ladbrokes or Butts Road on Sunday night or in Bitterne Road precinct on Monday morning with information should call 101 quoting reference numbers 44160182703 or 44160183308.”
Southampton police urge locals to stay vigilant and report any sightings immediately.
