Pub Landlord Blasts Woman Who Snatched Charity Box in Portsmouth
A furious pub landlord has slammed a “disgusting” theft after a woman swiped a charity box from his bar in Portsmouth. The shocking incident unfolded at the Park Tavern when staff were busy serving customers.
Thief Uses Water Trick to Steal Charity Box
Andy Lilly, the pub manager, revealed the sneaky thief came in asking for a drink of water. When the staff briefly turned their backs, she cut the string holding the charity box and made off with it.
“We didn’t even realise the box was missing until a customer asked to put their change in it the next morning,” Andy told reporters. Checking the CCTV footage confirmed the vile theft.
CCTV Footage Sparks Outrage as Community Rallies
The incident happened around 10:30pm on Thursday, October 28. Since releasing the CCTV online, the clip has been viewed over 80,000 times, sparking outrage and calls to identify the suspect.
Andy slammed the thief saying, “We’re angry we missed it, but it’s disgusting this happened. The money goes to helping people in need.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses to Help Catch Crook
A Hampshire Police spokesperson confirmed the theft was reported Thursday night.
“A charity box belonging to the Poppy Appeal was stolen. It’s unknown how much was inside. Anyone with information should call 101.”
The community remains on alert to track down the heartless culprit targeting charity funds at the Park Tavern.
