Schoolboy Caught with BB Gun at Isle of Wight Primary
A shock at Broadlea Primary School in Lake, Isle of Wight, after a Year 6 pupil was found carrying a BB gun on school grounds.
Inappropriate Weapon Sparks Alarm
The unnamed 10-year-old brought the BB gun into school on Tuesday, sparking swift action from staff. The item, easily mistaken for a real firearm, was quickly confiscated.
Parents Reassured as Incident Is Handled
Headteacher Sharon Freeley has sent a letter to parents confirming the discovery of an ‘inappropriate item.’ She insists the matter was dealt with “swiftly and appropriately,” reassuring families that Broadlea remains a safe environment.
One Child Injured
Reports suggest a 10-year-old pupil was hurt during the incident. However, the school has declined to provide further details.
Council Confirms Investigation Underway
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said:
“An event occurred on 4th June 2019 involving a child bringing an inappropriate item into Broadlea school. Upon discovery of the item, the matter was dealt with swiftly and appropriately in line with the school behaviour policy and advice from the local authority and other outside agencies. In order for the school and outside authorities to investigate with proper sensitivity for those concerned, the local authority is unable to provide any further details.”
Parents remain concerned but are grateful for the prompt response. The school has stressed its commitment to pupil safety amid ongoing investigations.
